March of the Mayors is a canned food drive, a fundraiser, and its ‘Mississippi’s Largest Food Box Packing Party’ complete with Moon Pies, Mardi Gras beads, and volunteers all rolled into one jazzy Second Line with a mission to feed hungry Mississippians!
March of the Mayors is a statewide canned food drive championed by the mayors of cities across Mississippi to collect food items to support their local pantries.
Food Collection:
Each participating city collects a particular food item between January 21 and
February 21.
Food collection begins on January 21 and goes through February 21. These four weeks are key to success for the community-wide packing party!
Cities have set up drop-off points as well where citizens can take their donation of the city’s one specified food item.
Food Packing Parties:
The Week of February 24-28, Extra Table, along with the regional sponsors and a load of volunteers, hosts Mississippi’s Largest Food Box Packing Parties in five regions over five days to meld together the collections of participating cities.
Food collected and packed by regions will support the local food pantries of each participating city.

Volunteer:
This is where the Mardi Gras Magic REALLY happens! Help us build food boxes loaded with shelf-stable food items from our AMAZING cities. These food boxes to go directly to feed the hungry in YOUR community! The food comes in from each participating city, and PARADES out to our partner food pantries to be distributed to their clients.
